Trauma Bond Week
Step 4
Step 4: Remove the Story
The walls flicker with images — moments, promises, imagined futures.
Then they begin to fade.
What kept the bond alive wasn’t the person.
It was the story.
Trauma bonds are reinforced by fantasy — who they *could* be, what it *might* become,
the version that never quite existed.
Healing doesn’t require erasing the past.
It requires separating reality from illusion.
Nervous system truth:
Hope narratives can feel regulating even when they harm.
Letting go of the story allows the body to release its grip.
Today’s grounding focus
Truth over fantasy.
Micro-steps for today
- Write the story without the hopeful ending.
- Name what actually happened versus what you imagined.
- Return to the present after each realization.
Quotable line:
Healing begins when fantasy loses authority.
You’re not giving up on love. You’re releasing illusion.
